An Introduction to noise barriers

There Are Two Different Systems,

The Intensive System - with built in irrigation for plants

The Extensive System - with external irrigation for plants

RockDelta® Green Noise Barriers are high noise absorbing and noise  insulating pre-fabricated walls. They have been tested at reputed European test institutes and they are placed in the highest absorption and insulation classes.

The RockDelta® Green Noise Barrier is a slim, flexible construction that fits in everywhere. The elements are easy to install and they have a high resistance to degradation. - Added to this the noise barrier elements need practically no maintenance and they are 100% recyclable.

Noise and Vibration - Two sides of the same coin            Up

Noise, both audible and sensible, represents a growing environmental problem. Noise and vibration from vehicular and rail traffic as well as noise from industrial and recreational activity, place an unsustainable burden on the local community. RockDelta a/s can provide solutions to these potential social and health problems through our innovative technologies.

Intensive System            Up

The “Intensive” RockDelta® Green Noise Barrier presents an opportunity for architects and planners to create an aesthetically pleasing sound barrier.

The water absorbent stonewool core material in the barrier provides optimum noise abatement and promotes a rapid establishment of a variety of plant species that can be chosen to fit in with the surrounding environment.

Through the use of a simple irrigation system situated along the top of the barrier, controlled, long-lasting plant growth can be ensured.

Benefits of the RockDelta Intensive system            Up
  • Thick, intensive plant growth
  • Excellent noise abatement properties
  • Long-term durability coupled with a recognized and dimensionally stable inorganic plant growing substrate
  • Thin, light-weight, flexible element construction provides many options and configurations
  • Aesthetically pleasing appearance through the creation of a green system
  • Low building and maintenance costs
  • Environmentally conscience and recyclable barrier elements

Structure of the RockDelta Intensive system            Up

The integrated capillary barriers in the façade elements ensure even and thorough water penetration, distribution and buffering throughout the entire height of the barrier. The stonewool structure stores the water much longer than other constructions.

The use of hardy perennial plants for the covering plant material are recommended. For this application, the choices are many and varied.

Extensive System            Up

The “Extensive” RockDelta® Green Sound Barrier can be designed so that partial covering of the barrier with green climbing plants can be achieved. This creates an aesthetically pleasing barrier coupled with excellent noise abatement capabilities.

Plants are easily placed into the ground immediately in front of the barrier. The plants then grow up the face of the barrier, using it for support.

Rainwater trickles through the water absorbent RockDelta® stonewool core, thus providing the optimum in noise insulation while at the same time providing the plants with a water reservoir during the Summer.

Structure of the extensive system            Up

The “Extensive” RockDelta® Green Sound Barrier’s water absorbent core allows rainwater to trickle down to the base of the structure. The hard external stonewool façade, combined with the overlaying polythene net, discourages vandalism and graffiti.

The use of drought-tolerant hardy perennial climbing plants for the covering plant material is recommended.
